The Wet: a forwarded email from a student

เรื่องมีอยู่ว่า ระหว่างที่ผมกำลังเดินไปมหา'ลัย มีแหม่มฝรั่งอยู่คน เป็นนักท่องเที่ยวแบ็คแพ็ค เดินเข้ามาถามผมว่า

"Execute me. How can I go to the wet?"

"Hmm? What wet?"

"No. I mean the place."

สถานที่ ... แล้วสถานที่ไหนเปียกวะ?

"Pub?" ชื่อผับหรือเปล่าหว่า

"No."

"You mean ... WEST?"

"No, I said THE WET not THE WEST!"

"So what would you do on the wet?" จากนั้นแหม่มจึงหยิบแผนที่มาให้ดู

"I'll like to go this place. It's said there's near the wet." เธอชี้ไปที่ ๆ แห่งหนึ่ง ซึ่งผมอ่านไม่รู้เรื่อง เพราะแผนที่มันบอกเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ ซึ่งบอกชื่อสถานที่เป็นภาษาคาราโอเกะ แถมลายมือสุดยอดด้วยมันอ่านยากโคตร ๆ ขมวดตีลังกาได้ตั้งหลายตลบ

"Do you know how could I go to this place?"

"..."

เดินถนนสายนี้มา5-6ปี ยังไม่เคยรู้จักเลยว่าเดอะว้งเดอะเว้ดอยู่ที่ไหน สงสัยแหม่มจะมาผิดที่ซะแล้วล่ะมั้ง น่าสงสาร สวยซะเปล่า แต่ดันเมาควันพิษในเมืองไทยซะงั้น

ทันใดนั้น จู่ ๆ สายตาผมก็เหลือบไปมองป้ายจากข้างหลังแหม่ม ซึ่งอยู่อีกฟากของถนน

"จะบ้าตาย..."

สรุป ผมโง่หรือว่าฝรั่งโง่กันแน่เนี่ย

The photo was, and it was misplaced so I got hold of it just not long ago. It was the Christmas (or Boxing Day) Party at our Department of English. I had no idea I looked that radiant! But it was also when I collected a few copies of my hard-bound thesis from the binder. Perhaps that explained why.

Very busy. Spent two days in the Department Seminar last week; spent forever dealing with the BBA course, grading, getting prepared for class, familiarizing myself with the APA style, looking for material for final exams. Was working on a translation that was overdue. Now having two completely new course syllabi to get done; one for the MA (English) program and the other for MA (Translation) program.

But of course I had time to take my niece and nephews to the zoo. See more pictures here.

ภาพเก่า ๆ

เหตุเกิดจากขวัญซึ่งเคยเจอกันเมื่อ 10 กว่าปีที่แล้วที่ภูกระดึงมาเยี่ยมพร้อมกับถือรูปคู่และรูปหมู่ที่ผาหล่มสักมาด้วย ทำให้กลับไปดูรูปสมัยที่ยังไม่มีกล้องดิจิตอล สวย ๆ ทั้งนั้นเลยนะคะ

อีกเหตุหนึ่งคือมีงานแต่ไม่อยากทำก็เลยทำโน่นทำนี่เล่นไปเรื่อยค่ะ

ถ้าใครคลิ๊กที่รายชื่ออาจารย์ภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ จะพบว่าดิฉันเป็นลิงค์ตายอยู่คนเดียวนะคะ เพราะว่าเขาทำเวปนี้กันตอนฉันไม่อยู่น่ะสิ วันนี้จึงปลีกเวลาโม้ประวัติตัวเองเป็นภาษาไทยและอังกฤษไว้ดังนี้ แล้วมันจะไปปรากฏที่นั่นพร้อมกับรูปทางซ้ายมือนี้ เร็วๆนี้ค่ะ
