ไม่ได้เป็นเซล แต่ ทำยอด โดยต้องเพิ่มหน้า (ตามระเบียบ) ให้ร่างหนังสือที่ "ผู้ทรง" บอกว่า ดีแล้ว

ต่อสัญญาให้ฟรี ๆ มาสามครั้ง

สัญญาที่สาม กำลังจะสิ้นสุดลง

ถ้าไม่มีการเปลี่ยนแปลง ตำแหน่งทางวิชาการ

ก็จะกลายเป็น ข้าราชการบำนาญ

charity work

It's only the end of week 2, 2007a, and my workload has reached a critical point. I've agreed to work on an 8-page English-Thai translation for Chula's translation center, thinking it would be useful for my graduate translation course. But then there is an urgent work from Chula's Exhibition Section (or something), which wants information about Cambridge Honorary Degrees to be translated into Thai (but doesn't want to pay for it -- which is why they've come to Department of English instead of the Translation Center). Well, it would also be useful for my students, wouldn't it?

มด: อาทิตย์หน้าต้องสอนแล้วเนี่ย (คิดในใจ: ยังไม่ได้เตรียมตัวเลย)
ป้อม: เป็นครูก็ต้องสอนหนังสือสิ จะมาบ่นทำไม ยายเบ๊อะ
มด: นั่นสินะ เป็นครูจะให้ไปพบลูกค้า bank ได้ยังไงเนอะ

ที่ไม่ได้เตรียมสอน เพราะวุ่นอยู่กับการอ่านงานแปล 53 หน้าค่ะ พูดดีๆ ได้ว่าเป็นบรรณาธิการต้นฉบับ เรื่องเกี่ยวกับระบบการบริหารจัดการของบริษัทผลิตคอมเพรสเซอร์ในเยอรมัน (ซึ่งดิฉันเชี่ยวชาญตั้งแต่เมื่อไรคะ)

งานยุ่งที่นี่มี 2 แบบคือแบบสนุกกับแบบไม่ไหวแล้ว ส่วนงานก็แบ่งเป็น 2 แบบคืองานที่ต้องทำ (จงก้มหน้าทำไป) กับงานที่เลือกปฏิเสธได้ (หาได้ยากค่ะ หลายปีมาแล้วเคยปฏิเสธงานจัด remedial course ในช่วง summer โดยให้เหตุผลว่าจะ revise course material ของวิชาอะไรสักอย่าง ปรากฎว่า 2 อาทิตย์ให้หลังก็ถูกเรียกไปมอบหมายงานเดิม ไม่รู้ว่าหาคนอื่นไม่ได้ หรือลืมว่าเราเคยปฏิเสธไปแล้ว ก็เลยต้องรับทำค่ะ)

งานอ่านที่ทำอยู่เป็นแบบไม่สนุกและเลือกปฏิเสธได้แต่ไม่ได้ปฏิเสธค่ะ ทำไปก็ต้องบ่นไป กำหนดส่งวันนี้ แต่ขอเลื่อนส่งไปเรียบร้อยแล้วค่ะ

tips for translators and more

Do not accept to work on a translation 1. (too far) outside your field, 2. out of consideration that if you don't do it, no one will, and those looking for a translator (usually those you love and respect) will be in trouble.
Other jobs you may need to do, as a university lecturer, apart from the obvious teaching and researching: checking if the fourth-years have taken all that are required for them to graduate, checking if the Graduate School website contains the correct information about your MA curriculum.

A lot to do, a little done. This, despite the fact that I haven't started teaching. Got to go home now; can't write even one more word.

a glimpse of Chulasic Park

Just to give you an idea.
The other day we had a department meeting in order to discuss revision of the present curriculum (which started to be in use in 2003, which in turn means I never taught this). Everybody else had a copy except Gail, who resumed teaching in November, and me. Today we went to the Faculty office together to ask for one each and were told we had to write a memo to the associate dean for academic affairs through our department head to obtain it.
