I just love to complain

มด: อาทิตย์หน้าต้องสอนแล้วเนี่ย (คิดในใจ: ยังไม่ได้เตรียมตัวเลย)
ป้อม: เป็นครูก็ต้องสอนหนังสือสิ จะมาบ่นทำไม ยายเบ๊อะ
มด: นั่นสินะ เป็นครูจะให้ไปพบลูกค้า bank ได้ยังไงเนอะ

ที่ไม่ได้เตรียมสอน เพราะวุ่นอยู่กับการอ่านงานแปล 53 หน้าค่ะ พูดดีๆ ได้ว่าเป็นบรรณาธิการต้นฉบับ เรื่องเกี่ยวกับระบบการบริหารจัดการของบริษัทผลิตคอมเพรสเซอร์ในเยอรมัน (ซึ่งดิฉันเชี่ยวชาญตั้งแต่เมื่อไรคะ)

งานยุ่งที่นี่มี 2 แบบคือแบบสนุกกับแบบไม่ไหวแล้ว ส่วนงานก็แบ่งเป็น 2 แบบคืองานที่ต้องทำ (จงก้มหน้าทำไป) กับงานที่เลือกปฏิเสธได้ (หาได้ยากค่ะ หลายปีมาแล้วเคยปฏิเสธงานจัด remedial course ในช่วง summer โดยให้เหตุผลว่าจะ revise course material ของวิชาอะไรสักอย่าง ปรากฎว่า 2 อาทิตย์ให้หลังก็ถูกเรียกไปมอบหมายงานเดิม ไม่รู้ว่าหาคนอื่นไม่ได้ หรือลืมว่าเราเคยปฏิเสธไปแล้ว ก็เลยต้องรับทำค่ะ)

งานอ่านที่ทำอยู่เป็นแบบไม่สนุกและเลือกปฏิเสธได้แต่ไม่ได้ปฏิเสธค่ะ ทำไปก็ต้องบ่นไป กำหนดส่งวันนี้ แต่ขอเลื่อนส่งไปเรียบร้อยแล้วค่ะ

เมื่อวานนี้มีนัดค่ะ เลยไม่ได้มาเขียน
ในที่สุดก็รู้ว่า "ดินสตึก" = "Satuk soil" มันเป็นชื่ออำเภอหนึ่งในจังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ค่ะ

I'm exhausted but have just finished the first draft of a Thai-English translation about a drainage design and flood prevention project. There are some missing words to be filled (who knows eg what ดินสตึก is in English?), and I'll have to read through the 12 pages of texts and another 10 pages of figures and tables tomorrow, which is when it is due.

I had lunch at the Market of Love at Engineering Faculty and received this recipe of love cake on the left and the following quoation this Valentine's Day.

tips for translators and more

Do not accept to work on a translation 1. (too far) outside your field, 2. out of consideration that if you don't do it, no one will, and those looking for a translator (usually those you love and respect) will be in trouble.
Other jobs you may need to do, as a university lecturer, apart from the obvious teaching and researching: checking if the fourth-years have taken all that are required for them to graduate, checking if the Graduate School website contains the correct information about your MA curriculum.

a tiring bad hair day

A lot to do, a little done. This, despite the fact that I haven't started teaching. Got to go home now; can't write even one more word.

Grad Forum

Arrived at work earlier than usual but just got to sit down in my office. Was in the meeting room the whole morning for Grad Forum, where our MA students had a presentation of their research conducted last semester. They were much better presenters than me when I was an MA student here. All used a power point presentation; I just learned to do it two years ago.

That's the Thai name of the research proposal that I got done today (finally). It's bearly comprehensible even for me. But it's a regulation/tradition to write such a proposal in Thai. The much easier to understand title is: Semantic Representation of Expressions with Past-time Reference: Evidence from English-Thai and Thai-English Translation. I don't blame you if you can't find any sense in this, though.
